Why Europe is hard to enter

Europe is a well-regulated market with strong buying power, but it is not easy on newcomers. Three things usually get in the way:

01

Many rules, strict standards

Product rules, tax and data protection vary with the activity. Missing a requirement can delay market access or create unexpected costs.

02

Unfamiliar channels

Finding the right distributor or buyer takes more than a contact list. Buyers need confidence in your product, delivery and after-sales arrangements.

03

Distance

Time zones, language and business habits make simple things slow.

Our job is to save you the detours.

Areas of expertise

Choose the support your business needs. Company formation, tax, legal work and product-compliance assessments are coordinated with appropriately qualified specialists where required.

01

Market entry

Assess demand, competition and entry requirements; compare distribution, direct sales and local establishment, with a practical budget and route to market.

02

Strategy

Define positioning, pricing and commercial priorities. Turn expansion ambitions into a workable plan with clear decisions and milestones.

03

Sales and business development

Identify suitable buyers, develop opportunities and support negotiations. Follow up on commercial relationships under an agreed representation scope.

04

Partnership management

Identify and approach suitable distributors, local companies, universities and research centres. Explore technical validation, joint R&D and industrial cooperation where there is mutual interest.

Why enter Europe through Austria?

Austria is a small market and a very good place to start.

  1. 01

    EU and eurozone member

An Austrian company operates within the EU single market. Product rules, tax obligations and sector-specific permissions still need to be checked for each activity.

  2. 02

    At the centre of Europe

Austria borders eight countries, and Europe's main markets are close by.

  3. 03

The door to the German-speaking market

German is used in Austria, Germany and much of Switzerland, supporting regional business communication. Switzerland is outside the EU and has separate customs and regulatory requirements.

  4. 04

Gateway to Central and Eastern Europe

Vienna has long been where international companies run their business for the region.

  5. 05

    Rule of law and stability

Clear rules and predictable enforcement: a sound basis for long-term business.

  6. 06

    International

Vienna is home to one of the four main offices of the United Nations and is open to foreign companies.

Clear terms before we begin

Project work and ongoing agency are different arrangements. These are the proposed starting points for an agency mandate, not a contract or a requirement to book a project. Final terms are agreed in writing and remain subject to applicable law.

Scope
Only the activities expressly agreed for your business are included. Authority to negotiate or act on your behalf is defined separately.
Territory
Austria first; further European markets added by agreement.
Exclusivity
Non-exclusive initially; any exclusivity requires a separate agreement defining the territory, products and responsibilities.
Term
Proposed initial term: 12 months, with renewal by mutual agreement.
How it ends
Proposed ordinary notice: three months in writing by either party, subject to the final agreement and mandatory legal rights.
Fees
Project work is quoted at a fixed fee per agreed stage. An agency mandate may also include sales commission. Its basis, payment timing and any expenses are agreed before work starts.

Dusan Urban

I’m Dusan Urban, founder of MarketEntry.at, based in Austria. I speak five languages fluently and have served as CEO of several companies. My perspective comes from running businesses, not from theory.

I want to go beyond advice: to be the person who stays involved, follows through and takes responsibility for the work entrusted to me. I am interested in representing your business over the long term, not simply delivering a report and moving on. A lasting partnership is built on clear responsibilities, candid communication and consistent action.

  • Integrity first
  • Practical results
  • Long-term partnership

Questions we hear often

Do we need to set up a company in Europe first?

Not always. Many companies test the market through a distributor or cross-border e-commerce before deciding on a company of their own. We will suggest the right order for your product and goals.

Does every product need CE marking?

No. CE marking applies only to product categories covered by the relevant EU legislation. Other requirements may apply even where CE marking is not required. The route needs to be checked for your specific product.

Which language do we work in?

You can send enquiries and product information in Chinese. Calls are in English; if you need an interpreter, we agree the arrangements and any cost beforehand.

How soon can we start selling in Europe?

Timing depends on product readiness, regulatory requirements and the sales route. An initial conversation helps identify what needs checking; a realistic timeline follows once the relevant information has been reviewed.

Do you provide legal and tax services?

Legal, tax and notarial work is done by licensed Austrian lawyers, tax advisers and notaries. We coordinate them, so you have one point of contact.

Do you only cover Austria?

No. We are based in Austria, but the target markets are chosen according to your customers and business priorities. Requirements and representation arrangements are assessed separately for each country.
